About Dr. de Leon

Dr. Gladys de Leon is a board-certified podiatric physician and surgeon who has been in practice at Foot & Ankle Specialists of Ohio for the last 25 years. With offices in Garfield Heights, Mentor and Chardon, Ohio, she has become a valued member of the local medical community, providing care for all foot and ankle disorders to patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly.

Dr. de Leon grew up on Long Island, New York, and completed her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Temple University College of Podiatric Medicine in 1993. She then completed her surgical residency at Mount Sinai/St. Francis Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, and went onto an additional year specializing in Trauma at UH/University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Newark, New Jersey, before moving to Ohio in 1996.

Dr. de Leon has a very well-rounded practice, including treating all common disorders of the foot and ankle, diabetic limb salvage, sports medicine, forefoot and rear foot surgery, and trauma. She also takes pride in excellent hospital management of her patients, working hand in hand with many specialties as an integral part of the hospital team in providing the best of care for in-house patients. Dr. de Leon has also been very active in the community doing education and community outreach programs and lectures for many local associations and groups. She has served as team doctor for many youth sports and cheerleading teams over the last 10 years (often for her own children, Brandon and Abby’s teams growing up.)

Most recently, she is proud to be involved with developing a remote patient monitoring protocol for diabetic patients with the hope to be instrumental in diabetic limb salvage and the prevention of complications such as ulcers, infections, and amputations. Dr. de Leon is a firm believer in education, early intervention, and making sure each patient is well informed and taking accountability in their health.

Practicing many of these ideas herself in self-care and her own health, she believes in being open to many types of alternative and innovative treatments to help provide patients with both traditional and nontraditional options for their conditions, health, and wellness. Metagenics is one of her popular alternative methods to treatment. She takes pride in her belief in the importance of good communication between patient and provider and maintaining mutual respect and compassion as the key to successful treatment.
